3rd Place in the Game Sprint 2024 Game Jam!

In this world, elements are your adversaries! 

We've all zoned out during chemistry classes haven't we? Such is the case with Deepu, our protagonist, who instead of reading and trying to understand formal chemistry concepts, imagines an enchanting world where the elements themselves are tiny creatures, scurrying about like little pests. Deepu lets his imagination run wild as he visualizes himself as the captain of an ionic spaceship, tasked with keeping it running by collecting various molecules to create important elements that are essential to keep his spaceship running. 

Elemental Escape is a 2D hypercasual action survival game where you adopt the role of Deepu's Spaceship. You are tasked with keeping the Spaceship running by collecting Hydrogen, Oxygen, and Carbon molecules to craft important elements like CH4 (Methane), and H20 (Water) to keep the ship's Fuel running, and provide it with a short Boost respectively. 

The longer you survive, the higher your score. Can you prove yourself to become a true chemical voyager? 

Features

• Fast-paced gameplay. 
• Collect Hydrogen, Oxygen, and Carbon elements to craft H20 and CH4 in order to prolong your spaceship's survival! But beware! collecting too many elements can cause the spaceship to overload! 
• Dodge the other molecules that when collected, will reduce your Hydrogen, Oxygen, and Carbon elements! However, collecting these "bad" elements can sometimes prove to be a boon rather than a bane, since it can reduce molecular overload (strategic!) 

Controls 

• A and D - Control the Spaceship's rotation 
• Spacebar - Boost 
• Q - Refill Fuel (CH4) 
• E - Refill Coolant (H20)

This game was made for the Game Sprint 2024 game jam hosted by Vellore Institute of Technology, Bhopal. As part of the jam rules, we were tasked with incorporating 2/3 themes from the following: 

1. Sacrifices Must be Made 
2. Everything's Breakable
3. Elementary  

Our game satisfies each of the aforementioned themes: 

1) Sacrifices Must be Made - In order to control the amount of elements the player collects so as to not result in an elemental overload, they are frequently forced to sacrifice other elements (and take in some damage) so that one of their bars does not fill up to the maximum. 

2) Everything's Breakable - Each element in the game, regardless of good or bad, implodes upon coming into contact with the spaceship. This infuses strategy into the game, since players must avoid bad elements from colliding against their spaceships. It also ensures that the game's pacing is fluid. 

3) Elementary - This theme guided our game's design from the very beginning, which inspired us to develop a whimsical gameplay experience centered around themes of chemistry, and the elements involved in it.
