Can you help Cobalt Survive the Clocktower Raid? 

In the Steampunk city of Gearhaven, Cobalt, a maintenance robot, must escape the once orderly Clocktower which has now been overrun by an evil legion of robots. Can you aid Cobalt on his quest for survival? Or will you succumb to the perils that lurk within the tower? 

Clockwork Ascent is a 2D, hypercasual, survival vertical platformer in which the player takes control of a robot by the name of Cobalt. Players are tasked with jumping from one descending steam ball to another, all whilst avoiding hazardous spiked balls and rogue enemy robots. 

-The player’s primary goal is to stay alive by jumping from steam ball to steam ball. Colliding against spiked steam balls, however, will eliminate them instantly. 

-Enemies will periodically spawn from time to time, damaging the player. Players can use Cobalt’s gun in order to eliminate these robots. The longer the player survives, the higher their score. 

Features:

  • Fast paced gameplay 
  • Jump between descending Steam balls in order to keep Cobalt afloat and alive! 
  • Beware of Spiked Steam balls! These will eliminate Cobalt instantly. 
  • Dodge and Take down enemy robots using your trusty gun! 
  • Heal by jumping onto Green Steam balls! But be careful! Staying on one for too long will launch Cobalt into the air, potentially sending him falling down to his doom! 


Controls:

  • Spacebar - Jump 
  • Left Click - Shoot Gun 
  • Right Click and Hold (Only on Green Steam Balls) - Heal Player 
  • Esc- Pause Menu 


This game was made for the Dev's Arena Game Jam hosted by Artemisia College of Art and Design, Indore where we were tasked with incorporating 2/3 of the following themes: 

  1. Everything's Breakable 
  2. Survivor 
  3. Landing on Things 

Our game satisfies each of the aforementioned themes: 

1) Everything's Breakable - Steam Balls descend down from the top of the gameplay space, before eventually getting demolished when they reach the bottom of the space. Players are required to keep themselves alive by jumping from one steam ball to the other before they are destroyed. 


2) Survivor - This theme spearheaded our game's design from the very beginning. Players are tasked with keeping Cobalt alive by jumping from one steam ball to another. Spiked steam balls eliminate the player instantly should they collide against it. Enemy robots keep players on their toes and forces them to defend themselves using their gun.


3) Landing on Things - Players land on Steam balls that act as platforms which are crucial for their survival. Landing on Spiked Steam balls eliminates the player instantly, which forces them to play strategically. Green Steam Balls allow the player to heal Cobalt should he lose any health.
